THE PAST

College and Sydney

After graduating year 12 at Mullumbimby High School in 1991 I furthered my education by attending a College in Sydney to study advertising. This involved attendance 5 days a week from 9 - 5 with only 4 weeks of holidays for the entire year. This was hard as I was travelling from Falconbridge in the Blue Mountains were I was staying with my Aunt and Uncle. After this I landed a job in St Leonards as a production assistant for nearly another year while still travelling to and from the mountains every day. (1.5 hours each way)

moving back to Byron

My parents banana farm in Middle Pocket became my home again after accepting a job with a printery in the industrial estate of Byron Bay. Working as a 'desktop publisher' using Corel Draw on a PC was the first taste I got of graphic design using a computer. Brochures, booklets and posters was the bulk of the work here with some packaging and logo design also. Leaving here was hard but felt that I had to after a life changing event forced me to...

the Southern Highlands

My big brother and his girl friend lived here and I was renting a room with them. This was the place that I met the girl... for about a month I travelled on the train from Bowral to North Sydney after gaining employment with an advertising agency as a 'Graphic Designer'. Here I had my first taste of a macintosh computer here whilst also becoming familiar with with Quark Xpress, Illustrator and photoshop.

moving to the BIG SMOKE

Sharing a house with two accountants and some chick, dunno what she did but her name was Vanessa (chucky), was the first taste I got of not living with family and finally not having to get up with the sparrows and travel to work. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy the travelling, just zone out after a days work and get a bit more sleep on the way to or from work, something I learnt not to do travelling home after sleeping through my stop and not being able to get home as it was the last train for the day. They were long nights...

'Bromide Boy' was my main job when I first started at the agency helping with paste ups etc then moving to junior Mac operator after about 6 months on a Quadra 650 but still working the bromide room, loved it!

we move into our own pad

I'm a paragraph. Not really!

Lavender Bay, above or near Luna Park (Sydney) was the next move into a 1 bedroom apartment ($260 per week) well worth it for the fact that I could do what I wanted. Loved the walk up the hill, into Nth Sydney Station Mall, up the strairs then up the hill to Nth Sydney Bears Football stadium on ridge street... was at work after 15 min all good.

Now for the second or third part of this chapter. We move from this part of this world to Artarmon on the pacific Hwy right, or almost, opposite the abc tower into a four story apartment. Even though more difficult getting to and from work was a great place to live, at least a bit cheaper considering a three bedroom apartment (was $10 bucks more). Now the carpark was underneath the apartment block so essentially it was 5 stories high. (I ended up at the bottom after doing wrong by the missus).
